Natural Play: Engaging Body and Mind

Nature is the perfect playground and optimal learning environment for children because it is filled with patterns, textures, loose parts, physical and imaginative play opportunities and continuous change. In 2008, we introduced Outdoor Learning Environments as a way to bridge playgrounds and nature, creating a fun way for children to fully reap the benefit of outdoor play.

Outdoor Learning Environments are natural playgrounds where children can play with and among the elements such as sand, water and living plants. These natural playgrounds enhance and reinforce the lessons children learn in every subject from math to the arts. They come in dozens of shapes and sizes depending on space and budget and range from vegetable gardens to our wildly popular interactive hill slide.

Of course, kids just want to have fun! We work closely with childhood development experts to design play spaces that have the right mix of mental and physical play elements to attract, engage and keep children’s attention so they play longer and more often.

We believe the playgrounds of the future are rooted in the past with plenty of places for children to run, climb, splash, pretend, discover and get dirty!
